| Geezer: (S) for All Songs : Have I Told You Lately | I Don’t Want To Talk About It (Rod Steward) | I Don’t Want To Talk About It (Van Morrison) | Sailing |
Rod Stewart is certainly a rock legend and the undisputed king of romantic song
. Rod’s trademarked husky, coarse voice put a emotional touch
to every song he sing. His remarkable souful style of singing is hard to imitate by wannabes because of his distinctive vocal range that able to hit the high and low note with aplomb
.
Rod is one rare singer that tend to sing the cover song better than the original singer himself
! Every song that enhanced by his ‘voice’ will undoubtedly become a heartfelt song with potential to hit the billboard chart !
Beside, he is also a unforgettable and expressive concert performer. Using his great voice and charisma, the audience will definitely remember this night forever of up close and personal with the greatest love singer of our time. He really a magnetic crowd-puller, and is still tremendously sought after in special event and host show.
Despite been a respectable songwriter himself, most of his megahit is actually a cover song or written by other songwriter
.
I came to know about him when his version of Sailing and I don’t want to talk about it received many radio airplay in late 1980s. And sure enough, the more you listen to his song, the more you fall for his distinctive voice
and personas.
The following is the best songs I like and it is all cover song. I prefer his slow and ‘feeling’ songs rather than catchy and funky songs. One thing I notice though, that his singing style and mermising voice easily expose his vulnerability which definitely make him very attractive for the opposite sex ! Maybe why he still has no lack of suitors and has married three times despite his age
!
Have I Told You Lately
This unplugged version of the song, written by Van Morrison in 1989, recorded somewhere in early 1993 could definitely fill the atmosphere with passion, and no-one really did it like Rod. So next time, you should do the same beginning with these words “Have I told you lately …”.
You can also listen to Van Morrison’s version in Geezer (S) and you can compare the difference in term of delivery. Rod is simply stunning !
Have I Told You Lately by Van Morrison
Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you theres no one else above you
Fill my heart with gladness
Take away all my sadness
Ease my troubles thats what you do
For the morning sun in all its glory
Greets the day with hope and comfort too
You fill my life with laughter
And somehow you make it better
Ease my troubles thats what you do
Theres a love thats divine
And its yours and its mine like the sun
And at the end of the day
We should give thanks and pray
To the one, to the one
Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you theres no one else above you
Fill my heart with gladness
Take away all my sadness
Ease my troubles thats what you do
Theres a love thats divine
And its yours and its mine like the sun
And at the end of the day
We should give thanks and pray
To the one, to the one
And have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you theres no one else above you
You fill my heart with gladness
Take away my sadness
Ease my troubles thats what you do
Take away all my sadness
Fill my life with gladness
Ease my troubles thats what you do
Take away all my sadness
Fill my life with gladness
Ease my troubles thats what you do
I Don’t Want To Talk About It
Neither am I going to talk about it
! Just listen to this, and you know why .
Rod Stewart & Amy Bell – I Don’t Want To Talk About It
I Don’t Want To Talk About It by Danny Whitten
I can tell by your eyes that youve probably been cryin forever,
And the stars in the sky dont mean nothin to you, theyre a mirror.
I dont want to talk about it, how you broke my heart.
If I stay here just a little bit longer,
If I stay here, wont you listen to my heart, whoa, heart?
If I stand all alone, will the shadow hide the color of my heart;
Blue for the tears, black for the nights fears.
The star in the sky dont mean nothin to you, theyre a mirror.
I dont want to talk about it, how you broke my heart.
If I stay here just a little bit longer,
If I stay here, wont you listen to my heart, whoa, heart?
I dont want to talk about it, how you broke this ol heart.
If I stay here just a little bit longer,
If I stay here, wont you listen to my heart, whoa, heart?
My heart, whoa, heart.
Sailing
I really feel like I want to sail after Rod sing this so convincingly
.
A rare footage of young Rod in 1970s singing this beautiful song that hit number #1 chart. Rod’s voice is more impulsive then and exert more effort to reach high note. It feel like shouting than singing , but then everyone love to impress at such a tender age
.
Listen to how Rod’s voice has matured in 1990s ! It is calmer and has more feeling, and it is really singing
! Perhaps his 3 times marriage make him all the more difference in his style and voice ! Of course, you won’t want to do that, won’t you ?
Sailing by Gavin Sutherland
I am sailing, I am sailing,
Home again cross the sea.
I am sailing, stormy waters,
To be near you, to be free.
I am flying, I am flying,
Like a bird cross the sky.
I am flying, passing high clouds,
To be with you, to be free.
Can you hear me, can you hear me
Thro the dark night, far away,
I am dying, forever trying,
To be with you, who can say.
Can you hear me, can you hear me,
Thro the dark night far away.
I am dying, forever trying,
To be with you, who can say.
We are sailing, we are sailing,
Home again cross the sea.
We are sailing stormy waters,
To be near you, to be free.
Oh lord, to be near you, to be free.
Oh lord, to be near you, to be free,
Oh lord.

I don’t think that there might be someone who loves Rod Stewart as I do. Whenever there’s a concert and I have enough time to attend I never miss the chance. But my purse is a little thin and sometimes I find some ticket prices unaffordable. Lately, a friend of mine has recommended me a site where to compare ticket prices before purchasing. I think it’s a good idea because this way I can look for the cheapest tickets.
