Introduction
Windows Live Writer (WLW) is a fabulous desktop blogging editor which actually make blogging fun
due to its immensely powerful editing features.
However, WLW is still in beta and therefore bugs
are to be expected. Using WLW is enjoyable (If you have a powerful machine), and it probably worth using now despite its bugs which are not a showstopper. Among the insidious bug is the image transformation feature which will definitely crash WLW, though this feature may not affect the blogging experience.
Problem: Error Accessing Local Post
However, there is one more bug that is far more insidious because it will disrupt and lose your work
and It happens randomly
.
This error is serious
because it will not allow one to proceed in saving or publish to the blogging hosting service anymore. If you try to do that, this error message will popup and will not continue until you solve the problem.
Possible Cause
After checking the web for remedy, Joe Cheng [MSFT] in this Microsoft forum produce this answer:
You should be able to find the .wpost file in your My Documents\My Weblog Posts\Drafts directory. If you e-mail it to me at joe.cheng *AT* microsoft.com I can fix the problem and send you the contents.
This is a bug that will be fixed in the next version. In the meantime the only thing to try is to copy the contents of your post into a new post. Sorry.
So quite obviously, the cause is due to corrupted local draft. And from what I experience, it will happen if you try to open additional WLW application, and perform saving and submitting. So I advise against open multiple WLW windows that will probably cause corruption.
Joe’s answer to resolve the bug is
This is a bug that will be fixed in the next version. In the meantime the only thing to try is to copy the contents of your post into a new post. Sorry.
However, Joes’ solution does not work well because the image and video will not be copied at all, leaving a blank placeHolder (Left)
Solution
So what’s the optimal solution ? The solution that I successfully try out is simply remove the local draft of your blog. LWL store the local draft in the directory
- [drive:\Users\userName\Documents\My Weblog Posts\Drafts] for Windows Vista.
- [drive:\Users\userName\My Documents\My Weblog Posts\Drafts] for Windows XP. (Please help to check since I not using XP anymore)
- There will be Drafts and Recent Posts dir under My Weblog . Do the following operation to both directories.
The blog filename can be easily identify since it correspond to your blog title. Delete the corrupted local draft for the blog (.wposts), and then reopen the correspondent blog from the blog hosting service. Yap, reopen from the remote copy. This only work if you have a remote copy ! Therefore, it is advisable to constantly submit the latest blog remotely as a precaution. You can use Split Post feature and Set Publish Date to help you to manage the blog.
So hope you find this tip useful
