IMPORTANT: Vodpod’s Post Video window has been integrated into the new Share Video window . But the mentioned steps still applicable. Just treat the Post Video as Share Video Window. |
is one of most popular image sites which add the capability to embed slideshow into a site. However, the steps to embedding the slideShow may not be apparent to most people. Beside, Flickr currently does not explicitly support in SlideShow widget embedding, and therefore is needed to provide the desired embedding capability. However, majority still may not know how to do it in Vodpod, hence a step-by-step video goes a long way in mitigating those perception of “complication”, and also show how simple the whole process actually is. So please read on…
Prerequisite
The following video assumes the prerequisites,
- Register a account with Vodpod
- Create VodPod’s bookmarklet in Firefox’s Bookmarks Toobar
- Create account with Flickr and images added to Flickr.
Video Showing Steps to Embed Flickr Slideshow into WordPress.com
If a picture is worth a thousand words then a video ought to worth a million words.
Due to request by readers to show simplified steps to embedding a Flickr Slideshow into WordPress.com, I have created a step-by-step video to highlight those steps. The video has captions so that it can be easily followed. To display in FullScreen (Enlarge) mode, click on located in the ‘s video widget.
Those steps in the above video can be summarized as follows:
- Go to and login.
- Go to Photostream page, and click on SlideShow link to display the fullScreen SlideShow
- Click on VodPod’s Post Video bookmarklet.
- The Post Video window will show up and preview the video. Enter relevant information to post to WordPress.com. click Publish.
Alternatively (Part 2 in the video at 1:00min), user can also enter the Embed HTML code of the widget into the Post Video bookmarklet. This means that As long as one able to obtain the Embed HTML code of (any) widget, he can use the Post Video Window anytime.
Note that you must login to flickr to obtain the Embed HTML code from the SlideShow’s Share panel, otherwise it will be hidden from view.
Modifying the Post
After the Post is created, user can modify the post using blog editor like Windows Live Writer 2009 (Strongly recommended) at http://windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com/
Tip: To rename the post link , call up the Properties panel (View –> Properties, or F2 key) to edit the Slug textfield
How to install Vodpod’s Share Video bookmarklet into FireFox
Visit the site http://vodpod.com/button
Make sure that Bookmarks Toolbar is displayed so that bookmarklet can be dragged into the toolbar
Drag Share Video button into the toolbar
Voila ! Now the bookmarklet is successfully installed, and it can call up Post Video window anytime !
Well, that’s all. Hope that this guide provides the valuable information you needed to embed your favourite Flickr SlideShow into WordPress.com.
Latest Update on 7Mar2009: Problem on displaying Flickr SlideShow Widget
Some users experience problem showing Flickr Slideshow Widget after some time. From my observation, it seems that the Flickr SlideShow widget shown in Vodpod’s site will eventually show the following for Flickr widget.
However I’m yet to experience any problem showing the widget in WordPress.com captured by Vodpod. The following is the Flickr Slideshow widget captured by Vodpod.
Vodpod videos no longer available.
THANK YOU, geeky coder. I have been looking for this information for so long and you have made my day. Merci!
I still get the dreaded Oh no! We couldn’t find anything message, when following this method.
Thanks for trying though!

Claude,
if you could list the steps that you took to capture the Flickr widget, I can troubleshoot it…
Claude,
I have just created Flickr widget in Vodpod using the above method (Remember to Save in [Save to Vodpod] tab), and the widget show up successfully. Check below link…

I guess I totally misunderstood you! I thought you were talking about the flickr slideshow on a post. I probably read too fast.
I tried time and time again to post a flickr slideshow on one of my post and it just won’t work. It worked a couple of times, but won’t any longer…
And incidentally, when I look at your link above, I’m getting :
“Oh no! We couldn’t get anything!” 😦
Just dropping by.Btw, you website have great content!

Claude,
you are right. The Flickr widget in Vodpod site will get “Oh no! We couldn’t get anything!” after sometimes. Fortunately, even though the Flickr widget in Vodpod site shows the error message, the same widget embedded through Vodpod into WordPress.com will not be affected and still work correctly.
The following Flickr slideshow widget still works…
I still am not sure what to do! If I copy/paste the code that’s in “share”, wordpress just wipes it out when I save.
What really irks me is how inconsistent the whole thing is. I HAVE managed to post a couple of slideshows that are still working, but can’t see what’s different between those and the ones that get me the Oh no message 😦
Thanks for all the help anyway
For example this one still works but I haven’t a clue what’s the difference with the others and what I did right!

Claude,
I finally figure out what is wrong based on your description. I think you did not use Vodpod, you probably bypass the VodPod Popup to capture the widget. What you have done is merely copying the embed code of the widget from Share and send it straight into WordPress.com. Unfortunately, WordPress will strip that embed code out for security reason.
You have to use Vodpod to circumvent the limitation of WordPress’s support for unsuppored Flash widget, there is no other way I can think of other than using Vodpod.
I used VodPod every single time, as far as I know there is no other way of doing it. It worked a couple of times and all the other times it didn’t.
Hello geekycoder and Claude,
I too am having the same problem of successfully loading the picture slide show then about 24 hours later the box is black and says “Oh no, we couldn’t find anything!”
geekycoder, I clicked on the link you provided on your March 1st 12:54pm post and it says the same error message. This is exactly what I get every time I have used Post to WordPress and Vodpod.
I appreciate all your advice and effort in the matter, but any other thoughts to get a picture slide show to work in posts?
Thanks,
Ryan
Claude,
Let’s see if my flickr widget able to go through the first night… <:^}
Ryan Burge,
let’s see if the flickr widget display the same error after today. Evidently, the Flickr Widget in Vodpod site will eventually receive error, however it seems that widget embed by Vodpod still function correctly in WordPress.com.

Good news !
Posting is no longer required to obtain the Embed Code
I still see Oh no! We couldn’t find anything! I think flickr and Vodpod should get their act together…
Claude,
I have find a foolproof way to embed Flickr widget. However, it requires effort on the users to identify their pictures to be displayed in the slideshow by certain keyword.
I will write a new post on how to do it in few days’ time.

I’ve gotten the vodpod method to work in posts. I haven’t gotten it to work in any sidebar widget — like text, but from what I’ve read that’s not possible (if it is, please clue me in). I have gotten it to work on a wordpress.com page. So thanks for the tutorial.
My stupid question is…. if I use the vodpod method to embed a flickr slideshow and I update my photostream/set with new pictures, does the vodpod update? Or do I have to save the slideshow with the new pics as a new vodpod and then embed that……
Just answered my own question by fiddling around a bit. So the slideshow/vodpod updates as I add pics to flickr. Super cool! Now I want it in the sidebar!!
Hi, daveronica

Question – This works great for getting into a blog post. But what about pages, can you embed a Flickr slideshow into a page? Many thanks!
idahokiwis,
you can embed the Flickr Slidehow in WordPress page in similar way.
We have launched a unique widget that lets you surf through your entire photostream within the embed. Its really easy to use and can handle flickr, picasa, facebook and photobucket pics too!
Please find more details here: http://blog.lifeblob.com/2010/03/03/showcase-your-photos-with-the-new-embed-widget/
I can’t find any “post to wordpress” button! Also, is it only for firefox or also for chrome? How do I find it? Thanks.
