The Glory Of Love
Glory Of Love by Chicago
Tonight it’s very clear
As we’re both lying here
There’s so many things I wanna say
I will always love you
I would never leave you alone
Sometimes I just forget
Say things I might regret
It breaks my heart to see you crying
I don’t wanna lose you
I could never make it alone
CHORUS
I am a man who will fight for your honor
I’ll be the hero you’re dreaming of
We’ll live forever knowing together
That we did it all for the glory of love
You keep me standing tall
You help me through it all
I’m always strong when you’re beside me
I have always needed you
I could never make it alone
CHORUS
Just like a knight in shining armor
From a long time ago
Just in time I will save the day
Take you to my castle far away
CHORUS
We’ll live forever
Knowing together
That we did it all for the glory of love
We did it all for love
Afterall
Afterall is the theme song for the movie Chances Are. The original duet is performed with Cher . This is one nice song not to be missed !
Movie background (note this is not the movie ‘Chances are’)
Live #1 by Cher
Live #2 by Cher
Live performance
Look at how Kim Keyes , the backup vocalist, funnily imitate Cher’s style and she really sing as good as Cher !. From Peter Cetera Symphony 2003 at the Fraze Pavilion, Kettering, OH
When the first few lines of the song were sung, Kim teased Peter with an imitation of Cher’s husky voice, and made us laugh by flipping her hair over her shoulder like Cher. After he feigned mock horror and mimed her to cut it out, Kim slipped into her normal singing voice and made the part her own.
Afterall composed by Tom Snow and lyrics by Dean Pitchford
Well, here we are again;
I guess it must be fate.
We’ve tried it on our own,
But deep inside we’ve known
We’d be back to set things straight.
I still remember when
Your kiss was so brand new.
Every memory repeats,
Every step I take retreats,
Every journey always brings me back to you.
CHORUS
After All the stops and starts,
We keep coming back to these two hearts,
Two angels who’ve been rescued from the fall.
After All that we’ve been through,
It all comes down to me and you.
I guess it’s meant to be,
Forever you and me, After All.
When love is truly right
(This time it’s truly right.)
It lives from year to year.
It changes as it goes,
Oh, and on the way it grows,
But it never disappears,
CHORUS
Always just beyond my touch,
You know I needed you so much.
After All, what else is livin’ for?
Afterall by Al Jarreau
Another beautiful song of the same name.
Afterall by Al Jarreau
There, there was a time I knew
That no matter, come what may, love
would prevail
And then inside the dreams I knew
Came the question lovers fear
Can true love fail
Then I would miss the childhood wish
And haven’t I sung to you
Of the knight in armor bright
Faithful and true to you
Darling, after all
I will be the one to hold you in my arms
After all
I will be the one to hold you
I will be the one to hold you in my arms
In my arms
I know in my heart and mind
That no matter, come what may, love will survive
And love, the author of space and time
Keeps the galaxies and each sparrow alive
And the love that heals the wound
After the war is through
Is the knight in armor bright
Faithful and true to you
Do You Love Me That Much
I just love this beautiful song, though the video is quite too hot/sensual to handle (This is not the original MTV video)… Check out the Geezer audio instead if you don’t want to get turn on . Watch the video to see what I mean.
Do You Love Me That Much by Peter Cetera
Sometimes at night I lay awake,
Just to watch you sleep, hear each breath you take.
When the morning lights your face,
I just wanna hold you, and forget the day.
I live and breathe your every touch
Do you love me, do you love me, do you love me that much?
When you look at me across the crowded room,
Suddenly I wanna be alone with you.
I hang on every word that leaves your lips,
Anticipate the moment when I feel your kiss.
Enough of you is not enough.
Do you love me, do you love me, do you love me that much?
For so long, I’ve been trying to believe,
That someday, you’ll fall as deep as me.
But it’s just not there, love isn’t always fair.
Would you want the best for me,
And I hope I find the kind of love you can’t feel for me.
Could you find it in your heart,
To end this thing right now before it’s gone too far
Let me go and give me up
Do you love me, do you love me, do you love me that much?
Do you love me that much?

Next Time I Fall by Peter Cetera
Love, like a road that never ends
How it leads me back again
To heartache
I’ll never understand
Darling, I put my heart upon the shelf
‘Til the moment was right
And I tell myself…
(Chorus:)
Next time I fall in love
I’ll know better what to do
Next time I fall in love
Ooh, ooh, ooh
The next time I fall in love
The next time I fall in love
It will be with you
Oh, now, as I look into your eyes
Well, I wonder if it’s wise
To hold you like I’ve wanted to before
Tonight
Ooh, I was thinking that you might
Be the one who breathes life
Into this heart of mine
(Repeat chorus)
(Bridge:)
Next time, I’m gonna follow through
And if it drives me crazy
I will know better why
The next time I try
(Repeat chorus)
Next time I fall in love
Oh, whoa, oh
Next time I fall in love
Ooh, ooh, ooh
The next time I fall in love
The next time I fall in love
It will be with you
Forever Tonight
A duet with Crystal Bernard
Forever Tonight
Feel your breath on my shoulder
And I know we couldn’t get any closer
I don’t wanna act tough
I just wanna fall in love
As we move into the night
I get crazy
Thinking how it’s gonna be with you, baby
I don’t wanna play rough
I’ve been loving you enough, oh baby
Wanna take forever tonight
Wanna stay in this moment forever
I’m gonna give you
All the love that I’ve got
I wanna take forever tonight
Fill you up, fill you up with love
When we close the door
All I need is in your eyes
I wanna take forever tonight
Touch my lips, I’m on fire
You’re the only one
I’ll ever desire
Turn the lights down low
Make the world go slow
When I’m holding you tonight
It’s so easy
Nothing moves me like you do
When you tease me
And to rush would be a crime
I just wanna spend some time with you, baby
Wanna take forever tonight
Wanna stay in this moment forever
I’m gonna give you
All the love that I’ve got
I wanna take forever tonight
Fill you up, fill you up
Give you all my love tonight
When we close the door
All I need is in your eyes
I wanna take forever
And when I’m here beside you
I wanna see what drives you
Out of your mind
Oh baby
I never wanna leave
I only wanna be with you
‘Cause I love how I feel
Your love is for real
I wanna take forever tonight
Wanna stay in this moment forever
I’m gonna give you
All the love that I’ve got
I wanna take forever tonight
Wanna stay in this moment forever
I’m gonna give you
All the love that I’ve got
‘Cause I can’t live without you
Feels Like Heaven
A duet with Chaka Khan
Feels Like Heaven by Peter Cetera
All through my wandering years
I always said I was biding my time
All alone in the dark I’d face my fears
That no other heart would come to mine
At first when you found me
It took me a while ’till I realized
Why I felt weak when you were around me
Why I couldn’t speak when I looked in your eyes
All this time I’ve been searching
Until you, I was lost in my dreams
And I never knew that love could feel like heaven
Watching over me
Oh wherever you are
Invisible hands reach over the miles
For every wish you make to the stars
There’s one silent kiss I send to the sky
All this time I’ve been searching
Until you, I was lost in my dreams
And I never knew that love could feel like heaven
Watching over me
Everything’s changed
Since you came my way
‘Cause you put the color
In the world of grey
And you make the love
That carries me away
All this time I’ve been searching
Until you, I was lost in my dreams
And I never knew that love could feel like heaven
Watching over me
Feels like heaven
Watching over me

Interview with Peter Cetera
[…] Proceed to Part 1 for songs from 1967 to 1985 when Peter Cetera was the vocalist. […]
Check your facts…Peter Cetera was the last of the original members to join the band, so you could not consider him the founder of the group.
Also, on the successful debut album, the lionshare of the songwriting and lead vocals were done by Robert Lamm. Also in the early days of the group there were several lead singers and songwriters within the group.
You also omitted the fact that Peter’s insistence on singing ballads destroyed the group and that most true Chicago fans loathe the music Peter made as lead singer of the group during the 1980s.
Sharon,
you are right that Peter joined the band last. The issue is then the band was not called Chicago then, and it is not Chicago without Peter Cetera. From wikipedia(which you may take the source from) that Chicago band name was named after Peter joined the group, and the group released the album “Questions 67 and 68” as the first album, and soon the group change its name to Chicago. So though not as founder of the precursor but definitely as founder of the band Chicago.
“Soon after the album’s release, the band’s name was shortened to simply Chicago, when the actual Chicago Transit Authority threatened legal action.”
Thank for rest of subsequent information. I have to admit that there are still lot of things I don’t know about the band and its history. Peter did make Chicago world famous and overshadow any of the members in the group, and in the end the world end up giving Peter much of the credit.
“You also omitted the fact that Peter’s insistence on singing ballads destroyed the group and that most true Chicago fans loathe the music Peter made as lead singer of the group during the 1980s.”
Hmmm, that is really something new because in this post, Peter Cetera receives far greater viewership than Scheff (I have a separate post for him), and even though I feel that Scheff is just as good as Peter. During 1980s, the radio tends to play more of Peter’s song in my recollection.
I think it is a matter of preference of who is the better lead singer. My preference is Peter Cetera whose sound define Chicago better than rest of the vocalists before and after him. Well, as I say, it is a matter of preference.
Sharon,
You can loathe all you want the 80’s changes that Peter made, but you have to accept that as far as chart and monetary success, they did not really hit it until the 80’s. Check your history.
I know you diehard 70’s fans think of them as two groups, but what you should think of them is a group that evolved with the times as they did again in the Post Cetera era.
Finally, to blame Peter for the commercial success of the 80’s is also counter to the history of the 90’s and beyond when of course they continued to produce, well ballads with Jason leading singing the parts Peter would have. As Peter as said for his solo career, he has sang as many faster tunes as ballads, but fancy that the ballads are the ones that people like. The same is true for Chicago in the Post Cetera area.
Chicago and Cetera fans:
I’m with Sharon. The rest of you need do no more than read the Chicago Transit Authority album cover wherein producer J. W. Gercio explains that labels are to be avoided, but if you must call them something, call them the name of city where all but one was born, “Chicago.” I don’t think the CTA threatened to sue. That seems like urban legend.
Now, Cetera was “just a great bass player who happened to have a hellova voice!” Bass players of the time were not headliners. Bobby Lamm and Terry Kath were the “soul of Chicago” in the 60’s and 70’s. They wrote the songs, they played the leads. The uniqueness of the band is that they were all accomplished musicians, especially by the standards of the day. When Terry Kath, the best guitar player of the time to my mind, shot himself (listen to his lyrics – I think he committed suicide, but that is not what the band reported), the band was “rescued” by Peter’s voice and ballads.
Peter’s background in Country music led to ballads that didn’t fit with the rest of the band, except that it did generate a lot of money and popularity, something the original Chicago seemed to shun. I think that’s what drove
the band apart. As Sharon said, many fans resented Cetera leaving to go solo, but I’m not sure the band members were as sad as the fans.
I still enjoy listening to the original Chicago as well as Pete
solo, and all the guys who have played with the band over the years. The consistent thread is the high quality of muscianship of all the people who have played with Chicago. That’s why I think they are the best pop band to come along.
There is absolutely no doubt that Cetera was/is the best singer Chicago or many other groups have ever experienced.
Lister to Cetera voice now…just as brilliant as it was, listen to Scheff’s voice…wow it is aging which is understanderable.
Chicago has changed too many of the people over the years….maybe they should call themselves Chicago revisited…..either way certaintly not as tight as the 70’s or 80’s.
I’m a fan of all stages of Chicago. I don’t think it’s fair to say that Peter changed the sound of the group in the 80s. David Foster changed their sound. They were dropped after Chicago 14 by CBS and Warner picked them up under Foster’s direction. He forced Champlin on them (which was a good choice) and got them on the radio again. Sure I love the original Chicago, the 80s Chicago, the Scheff/modern Chicago. It’s almost like different bands. I’ve even found myself listening to the Donnie Daccus albums (Hot Streets and 13) lately and feel they went underappreciated.
No matter when you pick up a Chicago album, it’s going to be great no matter which era.
